Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What GPS systems do you hire?
A: We use Streetpilot and nüvi from Garmin for Automotive Navigation, the zumo 550 from Garmin for Motorcycle Navigation and the GPSMAP 60 CSx for Outdoor Navigation. Garmin is market leader in GPS navigation.

Q: Is it really that simple to use?
A: Yes, just enter the name of the town, the street, and the number you want to get to - then just follow the screen directions and voice guide. If you can use your TV remote control then you shouldn't find our gps units a problem!

Q: Why rent instead of buy?
A: You can save money by renting gear you need only some of the time. Unless you use the navigation device day by day, investing in costly gear for only occasional use doesn’t make financial sense. You can rent our high quality, top-brand gear for much less than you’d pay to buy even inexpensive, low quality brands.

Q: How far in advance must I place an order?
A: We can generally ship your order within 2 business days of its receipt. Delivery via ground shipment typically requires 2 business days from the ship date. Your order should therefore be placed at least 4 - 5 business days in advance of your Start Date. Reserve as far ahead as possible to ensure best selection of gear, particularly if you want it in May, July or August, the busiest time of the year.

Q: How do I know I’ll receive my gear in time for my trip?
A: Every effort is made to deliver the gear to your designated address not later than the day before your Start Date. The best prevention is ordering well in advance. When we ship, we inform you by sending an email.

Q: How do I get the gear back to you?
A: Your gear will be carefully packaged and shipped to you in a multi way box, which also contains usage instructions, return instructions, and a prepaid return label. All you have to do is place it back in the original shipment box, carefully re-seal it, affix the label we provided, and drop the box off at the next postal office. You should obtain a receipt from the post office reflecting the date you dropped it off.

Q: What is GPS?
A: The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.

A GPS receiver must be locked on to the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position (latitude and longitude) and track movement. With four or more satellites in view, the receiver can determine the user's 3D position (latitude, longitude and altitude). Once the user's position has been determined, the GPS unit can calculate other information, such as speed, bearing, track, trip distance, distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time and more. Garmin® GPS receivers are accurate to within 15 meters on average.
